Writing or Speaking a Blessing/Prayer

Throughout Scripture we see many blessings and prayers that God speaks over His people and that God’s leaders speak over the people of God (ex: Numbers 6:24-26).

In the same way, we encourage our parents to create a blessing or a prayer that they can begin speaking or praying over their child.

Simple examples

These are just a few examples. The point is to be intentional about praying and/or speaking truth over your children on a regular basis. Be creative with this. Be personal. Use Scripture, hymns or praise songs.

Whatever you do, make it meaningful and memorable for your child.

I have been praying the same prayer over my son before bedtime:

“I pray you grow strong and brave and wise. And I pray that you love Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.”

  • Brittany Youngquist

I pray the following blessing over my two daughters:

“You are a daughter of the most-high King. God loved you before I even knew you existed. He knitted you together in your mother's tummy and breathed life into you. His plans for you are good plans, you can trust Him. The Lord has created you to be (insert adjectives that you see displayed in their life, ie. loving, kind, compassionate, bold, brave, gentle, trusting, honest, faithful, etc.). You are so loved. God loves you so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to the cross for you. He did this because He loves you. I love seeing His plans in your life unfold. You are so precious to me. Being your (mom, dad, grandparent, etc) makes my heart so happy. I love you.“

  • Liz Weiss

I recite the Lord’s Prayer together with my kids each night at bedtime:

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
